Mark S. C. Shi

Mark Shi is an associate of the Compliance Group at Yuanda China Law Offices. His practice focuses on Export Control and Sanction, Privacy and Data Security, Cross Border M&A and International Arbitration. He provides legal services including designing internal compliance management structures, conducting regulatory compliance risk assessments, drafting regulatory compliance manuals, and providing litigation consultation in international arbitration. He has extensive experience in advising clients in the semiconductor, retail and consumer products, and energy industries.

Prior to joining Yuanda, Mr. Shi worked at several China’s top law firms and accumulated profound experience from a number of projects involving government regulation and corporate compliance.

  • Engaged by a renowned natural gas listed company, assisting the Client in analyzing export control and economic sanction risks in an international natural gas trade including over 40 suppliers, banks, and shippers.
  • Engaged by a leading international biopharmaceutical company, assisting the Client in screening and analyzing export control and economic sanction risks related to its products.
  • Engaged by two leading Chinese semiconductor investment funds to provide full-stage legal services in connection with their acquisition of the domestic and overseas assets of a foreign semiconductor company.
  • Engaged by a leading domestic IC/chip company, providing a framework of precautionary legal opinions to prevent the domestic IC/chip company from being listed on the US Entity List.
  • On behalf of a Chinese company, reaching the settlement agreement with the United States Department of Commerce, reviewing and perfecting the establishment of compliance system and practical measure for the Client.
  • Assist the US subsidiary of a cross border company to respond to the investigation against the Chinese parent company and all Chinese parties on the Entity List resulting from the products and technologies with potential export control risk, and to respond to the related anti-corruption investigation.
  • Advise a Chinese renowned investment fund on the application of cross border data transferring and communicate with the governing authority in its US litigation case.
  • Engaged by the creditors of an insolvent mineral company in Zhejiang, assisting the Client in whole process of liquidating the insolvent company’s assets of more than 20 million dollars in Mexico.
  • Engaged by a Hong Kong company, providing legal advices as the PRC law counsel in a litigation adjudicated by SAC regarding the dispute over an international transaction of iron ore with a foreign exporter.
